Harvested Zambezi Teak Triple Slat Chairs
|
The triple slat chair has been carefully developed to provide excellent back support and structural integrity while reducing weight. This is particularly important when using such heavy, dense timber. Great attention was paid to the style and shape of the chair while bearing in mind the above requirements. The result is very pleasing form with a soundly engineered structure.
Timber is very carefully selected to ensure there are no knots or cross grains, particularly at the joints. However, it must be appreciated that with timber this hard it is to an extent brittle and if dropped onto a hard surface may chip or in extreme situations crack.
The chair is designed to have a solid wood seat (our standard), riempie (woven leather seating favoured in Southern Africa) or upholstered seats (all Savanna Wood chairs look stunning with upholstered leather seats).
Our chairs are crafted from African Hardwoods that were used in the 19th and early 20th century to build houses, railroads, bridges and much else. We seek out rare sources of this timber from house demolitions or where hundred year old rail tracks are being replaced with concrete to produce the exquisite furniture of our Savanna Wood Reclaimed Hardwood Collection. The timber is exceedingly attractive with a rich red brown colour that polishes up like glass due to the extremely fine, hard nature of the grain.

Our chairs are crafted from Zambezi Teak, a very dense, and therefore hard, wood. It is sometimes mistaken for Asian, Indian or Indonesian teak, which is a completely different species. Our Zambezi Teak is very much harder and more difficult to work. However, because it is so hard it is extremely resistant to biological attack and physical ware and tare, and will last, if looked after, for many hundreds of years.
