The making of a Savanna Wood masterpiece

We at Savanna Wood take great care and pride in the construction of furniture for our clients.

Quality:
The timber used to manufacture your masterpiece is probably the finest timber utilised anywhere in the world to make furniture, extremely hard with a fine, close grain and deep, rich natural colour.

Each piece is checked for quality no less that six times during the production process, and no piece is allowed out of the factory without a final, thorough, check by the Factory Manager.

Construction:
The furniture is constructed utilising traditional methods of excellence. Drawers and boxes are joined with through dovetail and stopped dovetail joints, very difficult to make but extremely strong. All pieces are solid wood right through. All drawer bases, backs of cabinets, even concealed components are solid wood, with no plywood or hardboard utilised. The furniture is designed and constructed to allow for the natural movement of solid wood. We manufacture doors and side panels with a panel inside a frame to allow the wood to move. The backs of cabinets are timber planks tongue and grooved to  allow the wood to move without opening a gap. Tops are fitted with brackets that allow movement. Fittings utilised are of the highest quality. Hinges are solid brass, and drawer slides are of the finest imported roller bearing construction.

Finish:
We finish our furniture with between 3 and 5 coats of nitrocellulose lacquer. Nitrocellulose is a natural fibre found in woody plants. We have selected this lacquer finish for its excellent clarity and depth, as well as its heat, water, solvent, acid and alkali resistance. The finish is rubbed down between each coat after being allowed to cure thoroughly to ensure a silky smooth finish of optimum clarity and strength.
