We already have a program that has started running with the workers at Savanna Wood that Kerry Kay and Peter Labouchere are helping us with and which seems to be working very well indeed.

We developed projects in the two wards to ensure food security by developing permaculture vegetable growing projects for the consumption of the villagers and resale to the hotels and restaurants in Vic Falls.

Planting of food and medicinal trees at schools and educating the children as to the importance and benefit of such trees. We would run this project in conjunction with Food and Trees for Africa (FTFA). We established a nursery for the trees and invite our customers to help cover the cost to plant a tree for every purchase made at Savanna Wood.

John Banovich, a well known and highly respected American Wildlife Artist, is doing a joint project with Savanna Wood to benefit children in the two wards.

Dozens of people have been arrested for chopping wood for fuel and this continues to be a major problem as we seek alternatives for this type of poacher. Savanna Wood offered their off-cuts for free to the communities and this definitely made a huge impact on wood poaching incidences, as cases recorded dropped dramatically.
